Sectors - Industrial Infrastructure
Industrial clusters across the country are being developed through para-Statal Agencies, and most of the units operating in these clusters cater to domestic requirements. Availability of core infrastructure in these industrial areas, which would need to continuously maintained and upgraded, is essential for the units to deliver optimal performance. Various initiatives are being taken by Government to upgrade the support infrastructure. With the advent of liberalisation and increasingly complex global inter-linkages, the units face competition from international manufacturers in additional to the domestic ones. Exim Policy of Government of India aims to accelerate India into a global giant and to this objective formulated various schemes such as Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) Scheme, Duty Exemption Scheme, Export Promotion Councils / Schemes and Export Oriented Units (EOU) / Export Processing Zones (EPZ) and Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Ministry of Commerce & Industry, and Ministry of Textiles, have also come up with specific schemes to develop infrastructure in specific clusters.
